Yeah, I definitely think a forwardcom Xeon Phi would be a good proposition. All of the things that are good about the Xeon Phi plus better vector processing and no need for the ridiculous x86 front end. It sounds like an interesting project, but I'm not sure it would be possible to make something competitive with dedicated GPUs.
